Leftover Dreams

beautiful voices for popular songs

"Your voices are like velvet on velvet. like one big slow dance where emotions are oozing." ~ Mary Flower

Leftover Dreams is Patrice Haan and Tony Marcus singing standards (and not-so-standards) of the Great American Songbook. They combine witty and imaginative vocal arrangements that feature Patrice Haan's sultry and seductive voice. Marcus plays guitar and sings as well, and the combination creates an intriguing mix of moody ballads, jumping swingers and unabashedly romantic love songs. Added to the brew are the occasional quirky originals, which spring from the same tradition but take a left turn somewhere.

The vocal harmonies and sparse but memorable accompaniment have drawn praise from such as Richard Hadlock, author of Jazz Masters of the 20s and host of the radio show The Annals of Jazz, who says " Singers Patrice Haan and Tony Marcus (also an ace guitarist) do something unusual: they treat often neglected popular songs with respect, restraint and unerring good taste ".

The group presents a sampling of the best of the classic songs of Rodgers & Hart, the Gershwins, Harold Arlen and such mixed with lesser known delights that haven’t seen the light of day for decades.

Their first eponymous album Leftover Dreams (2002) features Bill Napier on clarinet and Bing Nathan on string bass. We'll Take Romance (2005) further explores the backroads of American popular song between the two world wars, with a goodly number of songs that didn't make it to hit status, but nonetheless have that certain something that makes them stand out. The duet is ably assisted on some numbers by Jim Rothermel and Jeff Sanford on reeds and Rene Worst and Bing Nathan on string bass.
